The small, secluded community of Serra Retreat offers some of Malibu’s most distinctive luxury real estate. The wooded canyon area is also home to The Serra Retreat Center, where you can enjoy a break from the everyday busy-ness of life to reflect and relax.
The Serra Retreat Center is a Catholic retreat and conference center, located on the 23-acre ‘Laudamus Hill’ in Malibu. Overlooking Malibu Lagoon and Billionaires Beach, Serra Retreat Center gifts its visitors with breathtaking, panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains.
The Serra Retreat Center is rich in history. In 1928, 65-year old May Rindge was intent on fulfilling her dream of residing with her family in a mansion by the sea. It was at this time that construction began on her 50-room residence. After investing more than one-half million dollars into building her dream-home, the Rindge family was struck with financial turmoil and construction was ceased. In 1942, the beauty-adorned property was sold to the Franciscan Friars for $50,000. One year later, the Franciscan Friars began a tradition of warmly welcoming groups and individuals to utilize the facility for retreats and workshops. Today, Serra Retreat Center is enjoyed by individuals, church groups, schools, non-profit and profit organizations for reflecting, planning and setting new goals.
The grounds of the property feature serene, manicured gardens, paths, and walkways, providing guests with a peaceful and relaxing environment to reflect and contemplate. The grounds are open to visitors for personal prayer and reflection throughout the week. With accommodations for up to 120 people, the center also features fully-furnished bedrooms, two large conference rooms, dining quarters, smaller meeting rooms and a chapel.
