The Point Dume community features one of the most unique elementary schools in the area. Since 1996, Point Dume Marine Science Elementary School has been providing the children of Malibu with a unique, hands-on learning environment. Surrounded by coastline, tide pools, and wetlands, the school operates under the philosophy that children learn best when they are connected to things that they are familiar with.

From kindergarten through 5th grade, the faculty of Point Dume Marine Science Elementary School integrate Malibu’s environment into every subject. Students become educated about their natural surroundings through exploration, laboratory experiments, and by reading and writing about their experiences. Students of all grade levels experience hands-on learning in the school’s onsite science lab. The lab features tropical and cold water fish tanks which allow students to observe species, habitats and ecosystems first-hand.

Point Dume Marine Science Elementary credits much of the success of their science program to their Parent Science Committee. The committee is made up of parents and teachers who volunteer their time and energy to directly support the school’s science program.
